Worship Notes for July and August

WorshipSummer is a great time for renewal.  When we are renewed in body, mind, spirit, and relationship with others, we are connected with the ever-flowing life of God into our lives by the Holy Spirit, and we feel at peace.  In essence, being renewed as a Christian implies being centered in or living out of the gifts of our baptismal life with God:  daily forgiveness, daily call to new life in Christ, and daily recognition of the salvation that is ours to share with others.  Renewal comes less from what we do and more from what God can do in our lives as we give Him space to live and move.  Be renewed this summer.  Allow the breathe of God’s Holy Spirit to restore you anew to the center of your life, your relationship with God.  Join friends in Christ at Our Saviour for prayer, study, worship, inviting, encouraging, serving, and sharing.  All these faith practices are places where we can go deeper into our relationship with God, with other Christians, and find ourselves renewed and restored as people of God. Tell others about the opportunities to be renewed and to find peace with God, self, and others.

Saturday Night Contemporary Service (5:30 pm) and Faith Growth (4:30 pm)
Come Find Out What Its All About See
I am doing a new thing (Isaiah 43:19)

Saturday Night Service at 5:30 pmOur Saviour continues to provide expanded worship opportunities through our Saturday night service. This service continues to grow as all learn and enjoy this new opportunity to worship in a casual and more contemporary style.  This service is something Lutherans and others can connect with, but it will include a less formal worship style than our traditional Sunday morning services.   Saturday night worship services began last November at OSLC. So far the response has been very good with attendance now averaging 80+ people per service. Come and add your voice to our worship and bring a friend who hasn’t been attending worship.  Tell your friends, co-workers, neighbors, and family members who don’t have a church home about all our opportunities for worship, growing in faith, serving others, and sharing of God’s love in and through Our Saviour’s congregation. Through us and other Christians, God is restoring ALL THINGS to God in Christ.   Faith Growth for Children K-5th grade on Saturdays at 4:30pm started in January! This every week education time is where kids get in the Bible and the Bible gets into kids. Every week, kids explore God’s Word in large groups and small groups. Worship and prayer are the responses to what they’ve learned. This time is intended to help kids build deep and lasting friendships with God through the Bible.

Interested in being a part of
Our Saviour’s Community of Faith?

Our next new member’s class will take place on Saturday June 14th in the church library.  This is not your typical new member’s class in that we explore our faith questions like:  Why belong to Christian community anyway?  What is the center of Lutheranism?  How is Lutheranism like and unlike other communities of faith?  What is my response to God’s action in Christ to be?  And where do I belong at Our Saviour?  Our time is spent in making new relationships, conversation related to these questions, and individual reflection on one’s life of faith.  And added joy will be sharing lunch with your fellowship friend.  Please let Pastor Debbie know if you plan to attend. Click here to email Pastor Debbie.

Want to understand the Bible and its message for your life?

Join Pastor Debbie for Faith Growth During July and August

Join Pastor Debbie for faith growth during July and August and consider how Lutherans interpret the Bible.   In 2007, the ELCA church-wide assembly voted to embrace an initiative called Book of Faith.  The bold vision for this five year initiative is:   That the whole church become more fluent in the first language of faith, the language of scripture, in order that we might live into our calling as people renewed, enlivened, empowered, and send by the Word.

On Sunday, July 6-August 17, Pastor Debbie will be leading a study during Sunday School on Opening our Book of Faith:  Lutheran Insights For Bible Study.   Please join her for this wonderful opportunity to go deeper into the treasure of our book of faith.  We will look at:  What is the Bible?  How Lutherans interpret the Bible?  How Can the Bible Be Studied and used for daily life?  This class is also a good warm-up for those who will be joining our Crossways class in the fall.  Please let Pastor Debbie know if you intend to participate in the class, so that she can purchase a book for you.

Christian Care-Giving Training Retreat

Want to share God’s love and care with those who are sick, grieving, or facing a crisis?  Join Pastor Debbie, Dianne Banker, and some of OSLC’s current care-givers in a training retreat on Saturday, September 20, 2008 from 9am-3pm.  We will look at how to claim our faith story, use listening skills, and offer distinctly Christian action to show Christ’s love.  Youth with an interest in care-giving are welcome and encouraged to attend this retreat.  This retreat will equip you to serve in OSLC’s care-giving ministry, but the training is also beneficial for anyone who wants to offer comfort and Christian care to family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors.  Please let Pastor Debbie or Dianne Banker know if you plan to attend.

Did you Know?

Next year is Our Saviour’s 50th anniversary as an organized congregation?  Want to be a part of planning a celebration of our 50 years of ministry.  A group will be formed this summer to plan for how we can celebrate our life and ministry together over the last 50 years.  Please speak to a council member if you would like to be a part of planning this celebration.

Sunday Fellowship in August

Fellowship Ministry delights in inviting all members, guests and visitors to celebrate our friendships through Christ each Sunday* in Fellowship Hall following the 8 a.m. service.  Coffee, tea, juice and hot chocolate are served.  Come share in the joy of Fellowship!

August 31, 2008 -  Join us for a delicious 5th Sunday Brunch!  Everyone is invited to bring a favorite breakfast dish, baked goods, fruit/veggies, and other delights to share as we gather together in Fellowship!

Reminder:  Volunteers are needed to help with Sunday Fellowship  activities throughout the year . How can you help?  1) Sign up to set up/make the coffee on a Sunday morning (complete directions are provided). 2) Or help with cleanup between 10ish-10:30 a.m. on any Sunday.  3) Bring light refreshments on any 2nd Sunday Fellowship. 4) Help with food, set up & clean up for any 5th Sunday Brunch.  Helping hands are always welcome!

Backpacks for School

Backpacks for School   Once again Social Ministry with the assistance from OSLC congregation will be providing completed back packs for 21 students in the Fauquier community.  LOOK  for the information forth coming in our fellowship hall.  Because of the rising fuel prices, etc., we realize that many families may not be able to provide a completed pack as required, so we ask that you get together with another family or 2 and divide up the required supplies for the student.  This way, more families can participate in helping those in need and we can meet our goal.  Questions can be directed to Kim Ulrich 439-1703.  Thanks again for your support.
